Today’s lesson in Scottish: Instead of trash and garbage, say,
“Where shall I put this bit of litter?” And, “What day is the rubbish picked up?” Or, “That idea is total rubbish!”
And from the Enterprise guy who was helping with an impossible situation. “Yes, perfect. Absolutely no problem at all.” Then later, “Well, just now, we can’t actually do anything, but it’s absolutely perfect for Friday.”

This dialog is from when we decided to change out the car from a huge 9-passenger van, suitable for giving golf vacations to members of our golf club, to a modest minivan. After three days of promises, our dedicated Enterprise guy, Thomas, found us a smaller car. Since it was expected to rain all day today, this made great use of our non-golf plans! (All courses are closed because of the thunder and lightning… Just a usual summer day here.) We haven’t realized how lucky we have been all these years to have never experienced a total washout like this.

We drove the big car into Edinburgh to Enterprise, then the smaller car another mile to the Britannia, where we had the royal tour. The ship was quite nice and even slightly reminiscent of the Paul Gauguin from just a few weeks ago. See pictures…especially since the best rooms were run by corgis!
