Scottish lesson for today: Scottish Place Names

The real, but goofy town names that you’ve heard of in England extend up to Scotland too! Here are just a few from this neighborhood: Piscotti, Bow Butts, Windy Gates, Pittenweem, Pullofmucket, and Gliebe.

We managed an early out and on the road to meet our friend Peter at Lundin Links (said London), a lovely course with views of the water and a stiff breeze blowing. Okay, this wasn’t fair. We hit into the wind going out, then turned around right as the wind turned, so we were hitting into the wind coming back! But the company was grand. Peter is good for a few funny sayings. My favorite is, as I was lining up for a long way to the green (into the wind, of course!) he said, “That’s going to take everything in your bag — plus a taxi!”  Another favorite which I intend to use, “I’ve been dating the wrong girl.  Miss Reed!”

After the 3rd hole, Peter said, “We should have hit a few before starting out,” and but the 13th hole, he announced that we were all, “Finally warmed up.” And then it was par bogey, par, par, par. Good game, good companionship and lots of gorgeous pictures— some even “bright” with sunlight!
