This would have been a great thing to do on our first day here, but truth be told, we’re happy with what we did— the Icelandic Museum, the cathedral, and buying “new” boots! But if you are planning a trip here, I recommend starting with the Perlan because it shows you the extreme potential of Iceland with an easy-to-understand and complete explanation of the geology here. We especially liked the Volcano Experience and the Ice Caves. The Volcano Experience opened just two weeks ago and is a simulated “ride” that takes you over a lake, plunges you deep down into the bottom of the water, down into crevasses, and well, I won’t tell you much more, but it is fantastic!

Other than checking out of our wonderful Grand Hotel Reykjavik and visiting the museum, the only other thing we did was to fill up the car and return it to My Car. I cannot express how easy My Car was and how reasonably priced they were. As soon as we arrived back, they checked us in, checked the car, helped unload our luggage from our car to their van, and drove us right to the airport, 5 minutes away.
So now that we have a minute, we can ponder what we didn’t do. We didn’t climb a canyon, of which there are many. One that we photographed was called, locally, “Troll Canyon,” a slot canyon that looked lovely from the road. We didn’t go whale watching, which would have been fabulous (the Scottish family did that on Friday). We did not go ziplining—or travel way north, or hear Icelandic stories, or drink Brennivin (a strong licorice liquor that is supposed to take care of winter woes). And most of all, John laments not visiting a geothermal power plant.

It’s been a great trip, but it will be so nice to see and party with our friends back home!
