Day 1: Golf at Twilight

We were up at 6:30. Out of the Jazz Hotel by 7:00 with a great ride for the short trip to  Keflavik Airport. Destination, Edinburgh. There’s something about standing in line with golf clubs. We ended up in a long conversation with a father and son from D.C. They too spent a day golfing and sight seeing in Iceland— at a different course, with similar results. They were on a first golfing trip to favorite courses in northern Scotland. Fun times ahead.

Juliet and Patti, happy reunion for a happy game of golf!

1:00pm, landed in glorious Edinburgh, picked up the car in Corstrophine, then off to The Standingstone Farmhouse for a quick turn around. Found no one home and a note addressed to us. Welcome, we’ll see you later…of there’s anything you need… It was a lovely note, to which I replied with a note of my own and two bars of Icelandic chocolate and salted licorice as a treat for Karen and Anne.

Quick turn around into golfers and to get the car organized, then off to Gifford Golf Course, a lovely club just 9 minutes away, to meet Juliet whom we met last year when we were up at Royal Dornoch. What a lovely game of golf we had today. The weather, the light, the conversation…just perfect. We all went to dinner afterwards at the Waterside Bistro, right on the river with a church building reflected in the water, trees and floating birds all around. And the food was terrific—I had Medalions of beef and they had the haddock.

The lovely view as we crossed the bridge to the Waterside Bistro.

After lots of stories and laughter, we all said goodnight. We look forward to meeting again. Maybe next year!

Good night.
